An alleged ritualist in Enugu, Nigeria, has allegedly been caught after residents discovered the decomposing body of a woman reportedly hidden inside his house for several days.
A video circulating on social media shows a group of residents storming the alleged ritualist’s residence after reportedly learning about the alleged killing. The woman’s body was said to have been found concealed in the washroom of the house.
In the footage, the suspect is seen surrounded by angry residents as they confront him over the disturbing discovery. He appeared frightened and was repeatedly pleading for mercy as some of the residents physically assaulted him.
The circumstances leading to the woman’s death, including how she allegedly ended up in the man’s residence and how long the body had been kept there, have not been independently established.
The discovery has triggered intense reactions, with some residents and social media users alleging that the incident could be linked to ritual activities. However, there is no confirmed evidence at this stage to establish that the suspect is a ritualist or that the alleged killing was carried out for ritual purposes.
The incident has also raised concerns about the growing use of mob justice, as residents reportedly took matters into their own hands after the discovery.
The Nigerian Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, identify the suspect’s possible motive and determine whether anyone else was involved.
