Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has commissioned 10 kilometres of newly completed roads in Sumaila and Wudil Local Government Areas, describing the projects as a major step towards improving connectivity, security and economic activities.
The projects comprise five kilometres of roads in each local government area and are fitted with streetlights.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremonies, Yusuf said the projects were initiated to address critical infrastructure needs at the grassroots.
“These projects are aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs at the grassroots and promoting socio-economic development across the state,” the governor said.
He said the roads would ease the movement of people, agricultural produce and goods while strengthening economic links between rural communities and major commercial centres.
“The improved roads will facilitate easier movement and reduce transportation difficulties, while strengthening economic linkages between rural communities and major commercial centres,” Yusuf said.
The governor also highlighted the security benefits of the streetlights, saying they would improve visibility and create safer environments for residents, traders and other road users.
“The provision of streetlights will enable residents to extend their commercial activities beyond daylight hours, creating greater opportunities for traders, small businesses and other economic activities,” he said.
Yusuf urged residents to protect and maintain the roads and streetlights to ensure the projects deliver lasting benefits.
“Government infrastructure will deliver maximum benefits when properly safeguarded and utilised,” he said.
Residents and community leaders in Sumaila and Wudil expressed appreciation for the projects, describing them as important interventions that would improve transportation, strengthen security and stimulate economic activities in their communities.
