A resident of Abuja has expressed deep distress after a heavy downpour left parts of the city submerged, with floodwaters strong enough to sweep vehicles off the ground and cause visible destruction to structures nearby.
Footage from the scene shows a stretch of road transformed into a fast-moving brown river, with a white van and another vehicle caught in the current, partially submerged and drifting as the floodwaters surged through.
What would normally be a busy street had turned into an open expanse of rushing water, with debris scattered across the surface and little sign of the road beneath it.
For the resident capturing the aftermath, the scale of the damage left them overwhelmed, admitting they didn’t even know where to start in trying to process or address what had happened.
