A Nigerian woman has shared her experience after she was allegedly followed by a man for several minutes while returning home from an evening run.
In a video shared online, the woman confronted the man and asked why he had continued following her.
“You’ve been following me for 30 minutes. Why are you following me?” she asked.
According to her, the incident happened on September 19, 2026, after she went out for an evening run.
She said she was almost home when the man approached her and asked where she was going. When she questioned why he wanted to know, she said he replied by asking whether it was a crime to ask.
The woman said she decided not to go straight home. Instead, she ran through different streets while running some errands. However, she claimed she noticed the same man following her on several occasions.
She said she was surprised by how confident the man appeared even after she confronted him. She also questioned why women were expected to remain polite when they felt threatened simply because the person involved was a man.
The incident also led her to speak about women’s safety. She said she had recently discussed the dangers people, especially women, may face while returning home after going out for a run.
She criticised the idea that women should depend on men to protect them from other men, saying women should be able to move around freely without being harassed or followed.
The woman added that the experience had made her consider carrying pepper spray and a pocket knife for protection.
