Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Peter Obi, has declared that principles rather than personal interests have always guided his political decisions.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Peter Obi made this known during an interview on News Central TV.
Explaining the reasons behind his exit from his previous parties, Peter Obi said he was forced to leave the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of his principles.
He said, “Some men change parties because of their principles, some others change their principles for the sake of their party.
“So for me, I changed party because of my principle because I’ve been in a system where you can see that it is no longer what you believe in, what you want to practice.
“I left APGA because I was forced to leave. I left PDP because of my principles.
“You cannot say you’re going into a destination, but the process of going there has compromised your principles.”
Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has disclosed that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, once threatened to leave the coalition.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Abdullahi made the disclosure during an interview on Symfoni TV on Thursday.
According to the ADC spokesman, Amaechi was unhappy that the coalition leadership was allegedly giving preferential treatment to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Abdullahi said, “There was a time that His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi went to the national chairman and was threatening to leave the coalition. You know why?.
“He felt that the chairman was pampering Peter Obi, that he was conceding everything to Peter.”
Abdullahi said one of his deputies in the coalition structure was nominated by Obi.
