The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official timetable for political campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Elections, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
According to the timetable, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on 19 August 2026 and end on 15 January 2027, exactly 24 hours before the elections scheduled for 16 January 2027.
Campaigns for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections will begin on 9 September 2026 and conclude on 5 February 2027, with the elections set for 6 February 2027.
INEC said the revised timetable aligns with the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that political campaigns may only begin 150 days before an election and must end 24 hours before polling day.
The commission warned that political parties, candidates and their supporters are prohibited from commencing campaigns before the approved dates, noting that violations could attract appropriate sanctions.
It urged all stakeholders to comply with the approved timetable to ensure a peaceful, credible, transparent and lawful electoral process.
