Jigawa State has marked the 35th anniversary of its creation with a tribute to its founding fathers, past leaders, traditional institutions and citizens whose contributions have shaped the state’s development over the years.
The state was created on August 27, 1991, by the Federal Military Government led by the then Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, from the old Kano State, with Dutse as its capital.
In a statement commemorating the anniversary, Governor Umar Namadi expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for His mercy, guidance and protection over the state and its people, describing the occasion as a moment of thanksgiving, remembrance, reflection and renewed commitment to the development of Jigawa.
Namadi paid tribute to the founding fathers, elder statesmen, community leaders, public servants, professionals, women and youth leaders, civil society organisations, development partners and other stakeholders who contributed to the creation and consolidation of the state.
He also acknowledged the contributions of successive military administrators and civilian governors, including the pioneer Military Administrator, Major-General Olayinka Sule; the first elected civilian governor, Alhaji Ali Sa’ad Birnin-Kudu; Brigadier General Ibrahim Aliyu; Colonel Rasheed Alade Shekoni; Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Zakariya Maimalari; Alhaji Ibrahim Saminu Turaki; Alhaji Sule Lamido; and Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
The governor equally commended deputy governors, legislators, judges, commissioners, heads of service, permanent secretaries, local government leaders and civil servants who have contributed to the growth and development of the state in various capacities.

He recognised the traditional institutions and royal fathers across the emirates of Hadejia, Kazaure, Gumel, Ringim and Dutse, as well as district, village and ward heads, ulamas and community leaders for their roles as custodians of heritage, guardians of peace and links between government and the people.
According to Namadi, the progress recorded by Jigawa over the past 35 years has also been driven by the efforts of farmers, traders, teachers, health workers, artisans, scholars, entrepreneurs, security personnel, religious leaders and public officers.
The governor said the greatest tribute to the state’s founding fathers and past leaders would be to uphold the ideals of peace, justice, opportunity, care for vulnerable citizens, protection of public resources, respect for elders and investment in the younger generation.
He said the anniversary should serve as an opportunity for the people to “honour yesterday, serve today and prepare for tomorrow,” while renewing their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive and knowledge-driven Jigawa.
Namadi solicited the continued support, understanding and patience of the people as his administration pursues its transformative agenda for a greater Jigawa, anchored on sustainable development, socioeconomic wellbeing, peace and prosperity.
He expressed appreciation to the state’s founding fathers, past leaders, royal fathers, elder statesmen, civil servants and citizens at home and in the diaspora, praying that Almighty Allah would reward their service, forgive those who had departed and continue to bless Jigawa State and Nigeria.
