The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has described the official recognition of the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.
Alausa, who was represented at the ceremony by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, congratulated the Jigawa State Government and its people, saying the establishment of the university aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to quality education and improve the nation’s health sector.
“It was a privilege to participate in the official recognition of Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences by the National Universities Commission. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Government, I congratulate His Excellency the Governor and the good people of Jigawa State for this bold initiative,” he said.
Alausa said the institution would play a strategic role in producing more doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals needed to address manpower shortages across the country.
“This new university is a timely, strategic step toward training more doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals. It also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda to expand quality education and strengthen our health system,” he added.
The minister commended Governor Umar Namadi for what he described as his foresight in investing in medical and allied health education.
“By investing in medical and allied health education, Jigawa State is building national self-sufficiency in healthcare manpower, and that is the kind of leadership that moves the whole country forward,” he said.
Alausa also praised the NUC for maintaining academic standards.
“NUC’s diligence in maintaining standards is worth appreciating, and I count on the commission to keep supporting the university as it takes off.”
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to supporting the institution.
“The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to working with Jigawa State and NUC to help this university grow into a centre of excellence. Congratulations once again to Jigawa State and to NUC.”
