During a recent interview on Arise Tv on Saturday, June 27th 2026, Constitutional lawyer and Executive Director of the Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER), Frank Tietie, has argued that the proposed establishment of state police should be viewed as a complement to Nigeria’s existing central policing system rather than a replacement for it, saying the country’s evolving security challenges require a more decentralised approach.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Tietie acknowledged the historical effectiveness of Nigeria’s central police structure but maintained that current realities demand additional policing institutions at the sub-national level.
