The clarification follows concerns raised by the Kano State House of Assembly over reports of more than 50 deaths linked to the disease, particularly in communities in Rano Local Government Area.
The Centre said the difference between the reported figures may be due to under-reporting, as some residents may not seek medical attention or formally report suspected cases.
The agency says it is working with relevant health authorities to strengthen surveillance, case detection, and response efforts to prevent further spread of the disease.
