Lagos Health Commissioner Debunks Claim Alimosho General Hospital Has One Dialysis Machine

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has dismissed claims circulating online that Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, has only one functional dialysis machine.

Abayomi said the hospital’s Dialysis Centre has eight functional dialysis machines, with six serving general dialysis patients and two reserved for patients living with HIV or hepatitis.

In a statement on Monday, the Commissioner said the arrangement was in line with infection prevention and control best practices.

“The Dialysis Centre at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando has 8 dialysis machines, and all 8 are working,” Abayomi said.

He explained that dialysis sessions begin as early as 6am, with the centre remaining open until the last patient is attended to, sometimes as late as midnight.

“We run up to 200 dialysis sessions every month, supported by a dedicated standby generator,” he said.

Abayomi said the extended operating hours were designed to ensure that patients requiring treatment were not turned away.

He added that dialysis services were also available at other public health facilities across Lagos, including Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Yaba, and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta.

According to the Commissioner, additional dialysis centres are also being developed across the state.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Ministry of Health’s commitment to providing access to dialysis and other essential healthcare services to residents.

“The health of Lagosians is our priority at the Lagos State Ministry of Health,” he said.
