The Lagos State Government has called for deeper collaboration among the three arms of government as part of efforts to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and drive inclusive growth across the state.
This formed part of resolutions reached at the 19th Executive/Legislative Parley held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, from April 21 to 23, 2026.
The parley, themed “Equal Participation in Governance: Highlighting the Importance of Collaboration in Achieving the Present Administration’s THEMES+ Agenda,” brought together key stakeholders, including members of the Lagos State Executive Council, National Assembly members representing the state, lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Governance Advisory Council members, party leaders and local government chairmen.
Participants at the forum resolved that the executive, legislature and judiciary must strengthen their working relationship through sustained collaboration, coordination, communication and consensus-building to ensure efficient governance.
The communiqué stressed the need for structured engagement between government and party structures to promote grassroots participation in decision-making, while also fostering cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It further called for early engagement between the executive and legislature in the budget process, as well as sustained consultations on policy formulation to reduce inefficiencies and duplication in governance.
To enhance policy alignment and performance monitoring, stakeholders recommended the institutionalisation of quarterly meetings involving the executive, National Assembly members and state lawmakers.
On democratic participation, the parley urged intensified voter mobilisation and awareness for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), describing it as critical to strengthening the electoral process.
Addressing security concerns, participants advised the state government to intensify non-kinetic strategies, while also working with federal lawmakers to push for reforms to the Land Use Act to address overlaps between federal and state responsibilities.
The communiqué also underscored the need for improved communication of government policies, adoption of data-driven planning to identify underserved groups, and deployment of digital platforms to enhance citizen engagement and feedback.
On infrastructure development, the forum urged authorities to ensure proper notification of lawmakers before demolition exercises, alongside fair compensation and structured resettlement for affected residents.
Participants further called for the enforcement of planning approvals across public and private developments, while recommending the introduction of citizens’ impact assessments for major projects.
The parley also backed the proposed establishment of a Lagos State airline, describing it as a step towards boosting economic growth.
The forum maintained that effective governance requires teamwork, transparency, accountability and sustained political will to achieve the vision of a “Greater Lagos Rising+.”
