The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the death of his 35-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Jeremiah.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Hassan said the deceased, a resident of Karatudu Area, Kaduna, was found dead along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, at about 7:00 a.m. on September 5.
Hassan said the lifeless body of the woman was discovered with cotton wool stuffed in her nostrils.
According to him, police detectives from the Romi Outstation immediately visited the scene and evacuated the victim to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where a medical doctor confirmed her dead.
The police spokesperson said the corpse had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that Jatau was the last person to have called the deceased to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi.
Hassan noted that the suspect was subsequently traced and arrested at his workplace in Kaduna.

Hassan said Jatau, during investigation, confessed to having engaged the deceased in a fight in his room over a phone call from another woman, which allegedly resulted in her death.
He said the suspect further confessed to dumping the body in an open field close to his residence in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Hassan stated that Jatau has since been in police custody while investigation into the case continued.
He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
