The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has urged Nigerian passengers stranded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, to avoid participating in protests as flight disruptions continue.
Michael Achimugu, Director Of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, gave the advice in a post on X on Monday night, saying the authority was engaging Kenya Airways over the situation.
He said airlines were waiting for available slots to resume operations following widespread disruptions at the airport, describing the situation as a “force majeure” event.
“Please, do not stage any protest. If you are arrested, the NCAA would be unable to intervene,” Achimugu said.
He added that the scale of the disruption meant it could take some time for flight operations to return to normal.
According to him, refreshments were being provided to stranded passengers at Gate 23, while the NCAA continued to monitor developments.
The warning came as some passengers in Nigeria also reported repeated delays to flights bound for Nairobi.
Responding to a passenger who said his Lagos-Nairobi flight had been repeatedly rescheduled, Achimugu said the situation was still being monitored, noting that the aircraft scheduled to operate the flight had not yet departed Nairobi.
He expressed hope that the airline would provide passengers with clearer information on the status of their flights.
