The federal government has congratulated Malaysia on the occasion of the Southeast Asian country’s 69th Independence Anniversary.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed Nigeria’s goodwill to the Malaysian government and people in a statement by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The ministry commended Malaysia for its progress in nation-building, highlighting what it described as the country’s resilience, political stability, social cohesion and sustained economic development.
“the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria extends its warmest felicitations to the Government and people of Malaysia on the occasion of their 69th Independence Anniversary,” the statement said.
Nigeria also praised Malaysia’s commitment to national unity, progress and inclusive development, saying these had contributed to the country’s transformation over the decades.
The ministry noted that Nigeria and Malaysia have maintained cordial relations based on mutual respect, shared interests and constructive engagement.
According to the statement, both countries have expanded cooperation in political, economic and cultural areas, as well as people-to-people relations.
“As members of the United Nations (UN), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Nigeria and Malaysia continue to work closely in the promotion of international peace, security and sustainable development,” the ministry said.
Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its relationship with Malaysia through sustained high-level dialogue, stronger institutional cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships.
The government also expressed its readiness to explore new areas of collaboration with Malaysia in pursuit of shared objectives.
“Nigeria looks forward to working with Malaysia to explore new opportunities for collaboration, and to advance the shared goals of prosperity, peace and development,” the statement added.
