The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) says it will take regulatory action against the producers of Living in Colors over the planned public exhibition of the film without classification by the Board.
Living in Colors explores the lives of five young flatmates living in Lagos and navigating life as queer individuals.
In a statement issued by the NFVCB Chief Executive Officer, Dr Shaib Husseini, the Board expressed concern over the premiere of a film it said had neither been submitted for vetting nor classified.
Husseini said that although he had not seen the full film, its trailer depicted what he described as explicit pornography and the promotion of same-sex relationships.
He said the absence of NFVCB classification rendered the film’s public exhibition or promotion illegal under the applicable regulatory framework.
The chief executive said the Board had commenced immediate regulatory action against the filmmakers, the movie and the exhibition centre involved in the planned premiere.
He also warned against the public exhibition of films that had not been licensed by the NFVCB.
