Nigeria and Cabo Verde have held bilateral discussions on strengthening direct air connectivity, migration, tourism and technical cooperation between both countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this in a post via her X handle while reporting on a bilateral meeting with Cabo Verde’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Defence, Manuel Augusto Lima Amante de Rosa.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union in Luanda, Angola.
Also present at the meeting was Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the discussions focused on areas capable of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two West African countries.
“Our bilateral discussions prioritized improving direct air links, migration, tourism partnerships, AfCFTA, technical cooperation and cooperative transport frameworks,” she said.
Nigeria and Cabo Verde maintain diplomatic, cultural and economic relations, with both countries also cooperating through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The minister noted that more than 1,000 Nigerians live in Cabo Verde, with many working in strategic sectors, particularly digital technology and innovation.
She said both countries also collaborate on regional policy, security and health initiatives.
According to her, Nigeria and Cabo Verde had further strengthened their technological cooperation through the launch of the Digital Africa Corridor, an initiative aimed at promoting technological innovation, startup development and cross-border digital trade.
Cabo Verde, also known as Cape Verde, is an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean, about 500 kilometres off the West African coast. Portuguese is the country’s official language.
