The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has congratulated Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on his conferment with an honorary Doctor of Law degree by the University of East London in the United Kingdom.
Olopade described the honour as recognition of Mbah’s leadership, public service and contributions to the development of Enugu State.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Kola Daniel, on Saturday, the NSC DG said the honour was particularly significant to him because he and Mbah were classmates at the University of East London Law School.
“Governor Mbah and I shared the same classrooms and academic journey at the University of East London Law School. To see him return to our alma mater years later and be honoured for his contributions to society is both gratifying and deeply inspiring,” Olopade said.
He praised Mbah’s approach to governance, describing him as a public servant whose leadership is driven by “vision, courage and a clear understanding of the responsibility that comes with public office.”
“Governor Mbah has distinguished himself through purposeful leadership and an unwavering commitment to public service. His administration has demonstrated that when leadership is driven by vision and a genuine desire to improve the lives of the people, meaningful progress is possible,” he said.
Olopade also commended the governor’s focus on education and human capital development, describing both as essential to building a prosperous and sustainable society.
“What makes this honour particularly fitting is that it recognises not only the office Governor Mbah occupies, but the quality of service he has brought to it. His record reflects a leader who understands that the real measure of public service is the positive difference made in the lives of the people,” he added.
The NSC DG said Mbah’s journey from the classrooms of the University of East London Law School to the leadership of Enugu State demonstrated the value of education, discipline and service.
He expressed confidence that the honorary doctorate would further encourage the governor in his efforts to transform Enugu State and contribute to the development of the South-East and Nigeria.
