President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have been listed among the presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to The Nation, the final list, sighted at the commission’s Federal Capital Territory office and signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, Secretary of the Commission, on Saturday, contains presidential candidates presented by 18 political parties.
Tinubu is listed as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Atiku is listed alongside former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi is contesting the presidency with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Makinde is also listed as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), with Musa Lawal Daura as his running mate.
The list showed that Accord, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Youth Party did not field presidential candidates for the election.
Also on the list are Sunday Chibuzo Okereke, 43, of the Labour Party LP, paired with Hajja Bintu Konto, 54; and Sandy Ojang Onor, 60, of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, running with Umaru Babangida, 61.
Other candidates cleared by the Commission include Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of AA, running with Shehu Hussaini; Aliyu Abbas-Bin of ADP, paired with Chinazam Ike; Kabiru Yusuf of APP, running with Peace Egobia Ofordile; Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress AAC, paired with Haruna Garba Magashi; Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of APM, running with Musa Lawal Daura; and Sunday Adenuga of BP, alongside Usman Turaki Mustapha.
The list also features Moses Olusoji Adebisi of DLA, running with Nafisat Usaku Abubakar; Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party NDP, paired with Uchenna Anthony Chukwuemeka; Nkem Esther Okereke of NRM, running with Nasir Muhammed Sulaiman; Donald Duke of PRP, alongside Kabiru Rabiu; Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), paired with Usman Muhammed Bugaje; Peter Ada Agada of the Young Progressives Party YPP, running with Patience Ndidi Key; and Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party ZLP, alongside Hassan Khalid.
The document displayed at INEC’s FCT office also contained candidates for the National Assembly elections in the territory.
It listed candidates from 18 political parties contesting the single senatorial seat in the FCT, while 38 candidates are listed for the two House of Representatives seats.
The list, according to the commission would also be displayed in the respective states where the candidates are contesting.
However, as of the time of filing this report, INEC had yet to publish the final list on its official website or social media platforms.
