The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four suspects over the alleged vandalism and theft of aluminium roofing sheets from the School of Nursing in Hadejia, Jigawa State.
The suspects were apprehended on 28 July by operatives of the NSCDC Gandun Sarki Division during a routine surveillance operation aimed at protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
According to the Corps, the suspects were intercepted behind the school’s perimeter fence in possession of 13 square metres of aluminium roofing sheets believed to have been removed from an ongoing renovation project at the institution.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is a security guard employed at the School of Nursing, raising concerns about lapses in the institution’s internal security.
Following the incident, the NSCDC said it had advised the school’s management to strengthen its internal security measures to prevent similar occurrences.
Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state. He warned those involved in vandalism, theft and other acts of economic sabotage to desist, stressing that the Corps would intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering and enforcement operations to bring offenders to justice.
The four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
