Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins says he will organise and personally finance a youth football tournament in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Martins disclosed this during an interview with TVC News on Thursday, saying the tournament, tagged the “Renewed Hope Youth tournament,” is scheduled to hold in November.
The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward said the competition would feature teams representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with additional teams expected to participate.
“There’s a tournament that I’m doing for His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu that I’m doing for his campaign, the Renewed Hope Youth tournament, and I’m doing it with geopolitical zones, which is six, and I’m adding two to three more teams with it,” Martins said.

He said the initiative was not solely aimed at supporting Tinubu’s campaign but was also designed to create opportunities for young Nigerians through football.
“I’m just happy to do it for the president with all his hard work and all that. And that is not just for the president, it’s for the Nigerians and the Nigerian youth as well; how we can help them,” he said.
Martins confirmed that he would bear the cost of organising the tournament when asked if he would personally finance the event.
“Yes, I’m doing it in November,” he said.
The former striker’s announcement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with groups and individuals backing Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
“Renewed Hope” was the campaign slogan adopted by Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima during the 2023 presidential election and has subsequently become associated with several programmes and initiatives of the administration.
