The political atmosphere in Ekiti State received a major boost with the emergence of Dr. Olusegun Ayodele Osinkolu as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ekiti North Senatorial District, a development widely described as a strategic political realignment capable of reshaping the political calculations ahead of the June 20 governorship election in the state.
Dr. Osinkolu’s emergence is already generating excitement across the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district, Oye, Ikole, Moba, Ilejemeje and Ido-Osi, with many party supporters and stakeholders describing him as a grassroots politician with the capacity, influence and political experience required to deliver effective representation and meaningful development to the people.
A respected businessman, renowned philanthropist and grassroots mobilizer, Dr. Osinkolu recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, citing lack of fairness, inclusiveness and internal justice within the leadership structure of the APC.
His defection to the PDP has since continued to attract widespread reactions within the political space in Ekiti State, particularly among youths, women groups, artisans, community leaders and political stakeholders who see his entry into the PDP as a major political gain for the party ahead of the governorship election.
Dr. Osinkolu, a native of Ayede-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, is widely known for his strong grassroots connection, generosity and longstanding commitment to humanitarian service. Through scholarships, empowerment programmes, community support projects and financial assistance to vulnerable citizens, he has built a strong political and social relationship with the people over the years.
Political stakeholders believe his emergence as PDP senatorial candidate will significantly strengthen the electoral chances of the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, ahead of the June 20 governorship election, considering Osinkolu’s growing popularity and widespread acceptance across party lines in Ekiti State.
Before joining the PDP, Dr. Osinkolu was the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the June 20 election, further underlining his political relevance, growing influence and massive grassroots support base within the state.
Dr. Olusegun Ayodele Osinkolu’s agenda for Ekiti North Senatorial District is centered on people-oriented representation through youth empowerment, employment opportunities, agricultural development, improved healthcare and education, women empowerment, infrastructural development and attracting meaningful federal presence capable of improving the standard of living of the people across the district.
Beyond party politics, Dr. Osinkolu is also one of the prominent founding figures of the Ekiti Rainbow Coalition, a political movement comprising members of the APC and other political parties committed to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
The coalition, which continues to gain momentum across Ekiti State, has consistently reaffirmed its loyalty to President Tinubu and support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
As a committed member of President Tinubu’s political family, Dr. Osinkolu has remained vocal and unwavering in his support for the President’s leadership style, economic reforms and national development agenda aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Members of the coalition have repeatedly described President Tinubu as a courageous and visionary leader whose bold economic decisions are laying the foundation for a stronger and more stable Nigeria. They insist that despite the present economic realities, the reforms introduced under the Renewed Hope Agenda are necessary steps towards national recovery, economic stability, infrastructural growth and long-term prosperity for Nigerians.
The Ekiti Rainbow Coalition has officially thrown its weight behind the gubernatorial ambition of Dr. Oluwole Oluyede while also reaffirming total support for the second-term ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing both political leaders as personalities committed to progressive governance, inclusive leadership and sustainable development.
The coalition further maintained that the growing political alignment between supporters of President Tinubu and the PDP governorship structure in Ekiti State reflects a shared commitment towards peace, political stability and development-driven leadership capable of advancing the interests of the people.
With the emergence of Dr. Olusegun Ayodele Osinkolu as PDP senatorial candidate, supporters across Ekiti North believe the district is on the path towards a new era of responsive representation, strategic development and stronger political inclusion.
