The immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emerged as its governorship candidate in Gombe State.
Naijaonpoint reports that Pantami was affirmed as the party’s candidate during a governorship primary held on Tuesday in Gombe.
He emerged from a voice affirmation by party members after standing as the sole aspirant.
The Chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, Hon. Gregory Yenlong, declared Pantami the winner of the primary.
Yenlong said the former minister had been duly affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking after he was declared the winner, Pantami said he entered the race to serve the people of Gombe State.
He pledged to govern with fairness and justice if elected governor.
Pantami’s emergence came days after he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Gombe State.
The former minister had cited alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and failure by party officials to provide conditions necessary for a credible primary process.
His withdrawal was announced in a statement issued by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement.
Pantami said the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and a careful assessment of developments surrounding the APC direct primary in the state.
