The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 23 suspects in separate operations across 10 states, including suspected bandits, terrorist group members, kidnappers, murder suspects and cultists, while also rescuing seven victims and recovering firearms and a stolen motorcycle.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in the state-by-state executive summary of police operational successes for September 23, 2026.
In Benue State, police operatives supported by joint tactical forces responded to an armed bandit attack at Abeda Market in Logo Local Government Area on September 22.
The police said one suspected bandit was neutralised while two others were arrested. No casualty was recorded on the police side, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, is investigating the case.
In Katsina State, police operatives foiled a bandit attack along the Kankara-Dutsin-Ma Road and rescued seven occupants of a vehicle, including six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma.
According to the police, the bandits intercepted the vehicle but were engaged by operatives and forced to flee into the bush with gunshot injuries.

All seven occupants were rescued unhurt, medically evaluated and discharged before being reunited with the relevant authorities.
The police also reported the arrest of three suspected members of an armed bandit syndicate in Katsina. The suspects allegedly attempted to escape but were apprehended by the operatives.
In Anambra State, four suspects were arrested during patrol operations in Okija Community in collaboration with local vigilantes.
The police said the suspects confessed to membership of an outlawed terrorist group and provided information on the activities of the group, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members.
Also in Anambra, detectives arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a 34-year-old man at Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The victim’s remains were recovered and deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while the SCID Awka continues the investigation.
In Nasarawa State, police operatives took custody of a suspected kidnapper following a citizens’ arrest.
The suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in several kidnapping incidents and is assisting the ongoing investigation, according to the police.
In Delta State, operatives re-arrested a suspect allegedly found in possession of an illegal firearm.
The police said one locally made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspect.
In Cross River State, detectives tracked and arrested a principal suspect in connection with the suspected murder of a 22-year-old woman.
The case is being investigated by the SCID, Calabar.
In Oyo State, police detectives arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man at Iwere-Ile on September 22.
The SCID, Ibadan, is investigating the case.
In Ogun State, detectives arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged defilement case, while the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination.
In Ekiti State, four suspected cultists were arrested in connection with an attack and alleged malicious damage to property in Ikere-Ekiti.
The police said the suspects confessed to membership of a cult group and are assisting the investigation.
In Kogi State, police operatives recovered a stolen motorcycle following an armed robbery incident and immediate bush-combing operations.
The motorcycle was recovered and taken to the police station, with the SCID, Lokoja, investigating.
In Lagos State, police Motor Traffic personnel responded to a fatal road traffic incident at Tin Can Island on September 21.
The police said the area was cordoned off, victims were evacuated and the driver of the truck involved was arrested and taken into custody.
The accident vehicle was also impounded for inspection and further investigation.
The Force said the various cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments and other designated units.
