The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal “baby factory” in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects in connection with the operation.
The police said the operation was conducted on Monday, August 24, 2026, by operatives of the Mowe Division following sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at Abaren Village.
The suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 25, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said operatives stormed the suspected syndicate’s hideout at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, at about 8:00 a.m.
According to the statement, preliminary investigation indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been taking place at the facility over time.
The police said two pregnant victims were rescued during the raid.
They were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.
The command said further intelligence-led operations led detectives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
The police said Effiong was receiving medical treatment at the hospital when operatives arrived, but the whereabouts of her newborn could not be accounted for.
This prompted the arrest of the attending nurse as investigations were intensified to locate the missing baby.
The police said the case was being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The investigation, according to the command, would establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and facilitate the prosecution of suspects found culpable.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for what he described as their operational efficiency and prompt response.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
The commissioner assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing “to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens.”
