Politics

Supporters of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday stormed the All Progressives Congress (APC), secretariat in Oyo State to express their grievances and make demands regarding the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate.

NewsWatch Nigeria reports that development comes as the leaders and stakeholders of the party in the state formally adopted Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

Alli’s adoption as consensus candidate was reaffirmed on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.

However, Adelabu’s supporters were seen at the APC secretariat, protesting and demanding direct primaries as the mode of selecting the party’s governorship candidate.

Recall that Adelabu resigned as Minister of Power to pursue his ambition of contesting the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.

He formally declared his intention to contest the gubernatorial poll on May 12, 2026, promising to implement projects and policies to improve the living conditions of the people.

Adelabu declared his intention to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan.

The event was attended by prominent members and leaders of the party, including Kunle Sanda, Isiaka Alimi and Wale Sanusi, among others.

While addressing the gathering, Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, said he joined the race because he believes that the state deserves more dividends of democracy.
