Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, have appealed to motorists and commuters to remain patient as severe traffic congestion continues around the Kara Bridge and adjoining sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
TVC News earlier reported that commuters using the route were left stranded, with many spending several hours on the road and some forced to sleep there after failing to reach their destinations.
Sanwo-Olu, in a post on Instagram, said he understood the frustration of Lagosians travelling out of the state and those heading to different destinations within the city following a multiple accident involving trucks at Kara Bridge.
“I understand the frustration of Lagosians commuting out of Lagos and those going to their various destinations within the city, following a multiple accident involving trucks at Kara Bridge.
The situation was further compounded by the ongoing repair works on the bridge.”
The governor said LASTMA officials, emergency response teams, security agencies and other traffic management teams had been deployed to the area to ease the congestion and keep traffic moving.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the ongoing repair work on the bridge is expected to last about two weeks, during which traffic will be managed on the available side of the bridge.

He appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and make alternative travel plans where possible.

Meanwhile, Abiodun said the Ogun State Government had taken note of the traffic challenges affecting movement around Kara Bridge in Ogun State and adjoining sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a post on Instagram, the governor said the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) had been mobilised to strengthen traffic coordination and provide assistance to road users.
“TRACE personnel are working with relevant security, emergency and traffic management agencies to clear obstructions, prevent further gridlock and improve movement along the affected axis.”
Abiodun urged motorists to approach the area with caution, avoid driving against traffic and refrain from creating additional lanes, warning that such actions could worsen congestion and delay emergency operations.
