Shooting Stars opened their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign on a winning note after defeating newly promoted Inter Lagos 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The victory marked Shooting Stars’ first Matchday 1 win in four years and only their second opening-day triumph in the last six seasons, providing the Oluyole Warriors with a strong start to the new campaign.
Lucky Emmanuel put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute before Inter Lagos responded through Damilare Adigun seven minutes later to level the contest.
Uchenna Njoku restored Shooting Stars’ advantage in first-half added time, converting a penalty in the 45+2nd minute to give the home side a 2-1 lead at the break.
Inter Lagos were unable to find a second-half equaliser as Shooting Stars held on to secure all three points.

The hosts had an opportunity to extend their lead late in the game, but Mustapha Adams Agba’a missed from the penalty spot in added time after his effort struck the post.
Shooting Stars dominated possession with 58 per cent and also registered 11 shots, four of which were on target, compared with Inter Lagos’ five shots and one on target.
The result gives Shooting Stars an early boost as they begin their quest for a strong 2026/27 NPFL campaign.
