Six APC aspirants step down for Shekarau in Kano Central senate race

Six aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket for Kano Central Senatorial District have withdrawn from the race and declared support for former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

The aspirants- Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas and Shehu Isa Driver  announced their decision after a meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the aspirants said they stepped down in the interest of unity, peace and the progress of the APC in Kano State.

According to them, endorsing Shekarau was part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to the press they said, “We decided to withdraw and support Senator Ibrahim Shekarau to ensure unity and stability within the party and Kano Central”.

Recall that the former governor recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
