Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed grief over the death of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmand and former Governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.
Tukur, who died on Saturday, was three days short of his 91st birthday.
In a condolence message through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas described the death of the elder statesman as a major loss to Nigeria’s business and political communities.
According to the statement, Abbas said Tukur was an elder statesman whose contributions would remain significant in the country’s history.

The Speaker highlighted Tukur’s roles in public administration, governance, industry, politics and pan-African business leadership, describing him as a devoted Muslim who used his wealth to impact humanity.
He also noted Tukur’s contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development while serving as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abbas said Tukur “contributed immensely to the improvement of Nigerian democracy and standard political practices.”
The Speaker extended his condolences to Tukur’s family, community, business and political associates, as well as the governments and people of Adamawa and Taraba States.
He prayed to Allah (SWT) to forgive the late elder statesman’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdausi.
Tukur was a businessman, politician and former governor of the defunct Gongola State, which was later divided into Adamawa and Taraba states.
