The United States President Donald Trump has ordered the country’s Navy to take action against vessels laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump confirmed this in a Truth Social post on Thursday. He said that he had instructed the military to act against suspected mine-laying boats in the strategic waterway.
According to multiple media reports citing the post, Trump said: “I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be… that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil supplies. It has seen heightened tensions in recent weeks amid reports of mine-laying activity and increased naval presence from multiple countries.
US officials, as cited in reporting by international news organisations, say the directive is intended to protect commercial shipping and ensure the security of global energy routes.
