US President Donald Trump has once again threatened military action against Iran, warning that he would “blow up” the country if the ongoing peace talks between Tehran and Washington collapse.
Trump calls Iranians ‘crazy people’
In a “Meet The Press” interview with NBC, Trump called Iranians “crazy people”, claiming they would “blow up” the world using nuclear weapons, if they were allowed to build one. “I had to stop a country – a very powerful, very dangerous country – from having a nuclear weapon because they’d use it. They’d blow up the world. They are nuts. They are crazy people,” he asserted.
The US president also claimed that he doing the world and the United States a “service” by stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons, even though he “likes” them. “You don’t want to let them have a nuclear weapon and I’m doing the world a service.”
‘Will blow up Iran if talks fail’
Trump threatened he would “blow the hell out of” Iran if negotiations collapse, and rejected the notion of unfreezing any Iranian assets or lifting any sanctions up front as a part of any deal “I’m gonna do it even through negotiation where we’re very close to a deal, or I’m gonna blow the hell out of them and it’s going to be very easy for me,” he said.
He also reiterated that any deal with Iran would involve the US seizing the “nuclear dust”, referring to Iran’s enriched stockpile, and destroying it.
“If we make a deal, we’ll go together, it’ll be our equipment, we’ll take it out and destroy it. If we don’t make a deal, then we’re going to take them out militarily very harshly, and we’ll wait until we do that before we go,” he said.
What Trump said about Iran war, peace deal?
Trump further asserted that Iran conflict was an “endless war” as much of it has been conducted a fairly successful ceasefire. “I don’t like these endless wars. This is not an endless war. We’ve been doing this for three months; much of it has been under a pretty good form of ceasefire”.
Asked about the status of reaching a deal with Iran, Trump replied, “We’re very close. We have a couple of points; they don’t even seem like big points. They’ve conceded the fact that they will not have nuclear weapons.”
Trump claimed Iran has also agreed to not purchase nuclear weapons as well, though he said that Tehran initially pushed back against this proposal “a little”, but ultimately agreed on not developing or buying nuclear weapons.
Mojtaba Khamenei ‘very seriously injured’, claims Trump
On the whereabouts and health of Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Trump claimed he knows where the 51-year-old leader is, and that he is “very seriously injured.”
“I don’t want to say whether or not I know where he is, but there’s a good probability that I do. He’s very seriously injured.”
Asked why Iran hasn’t signed the deal yet, Trump said, “It’s a very hard thing for them. There are things they never thought they’d be doing that they’re going to have to do. They’ve got no choice. And it takes a little while, you’re talking about 47 years of getting away with whatever they wanted.”
He further claimed that the US naval blockade has been “extremely effective” and Iran is losing $500 million a day.
“We have a blockade. It’s been extremely effective — and the reason we have it is that they tried to blockade, and now we blockaded them. They’re losing $4-500 million a day… We have the ultimate blockade.”
Iran says US bases, assets ‘legitimate targets’
Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf, lashed out at the US, stating that Washington is neither committed to a ceasefire nor does it believe in dialogue.
“They are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and by demonstrating through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon that they only understand the language of power,” he said in a post on X.
Ghalibaf threatned that the blockade and Israeli military operations in Lebanon have made US bases and assets in regions “legitimate targets” for Iran.
“The naval blockade against the Iranian nation and America’s green light today to the Zionist regime turn American and regime bases and assets in the region into legitimate targets. The hand of our armed forces is open, as always,” he added.
