President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday.
Tinubu, in a statement on Monday, described the Sultan as a “stabilising voice” and a bridge-builder whose leadership has contributed to peace, unity and national development.
The President congratulated the Sultan on behalf of himself, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Government and people of Nigeria.
According to Tinubu, the Sultan’s 70 years represent “a life lived in service, wisdom, and grace”, noting that he has upheld the traditions of the Sokoto Caliphate during his nearly two decades on the throne.

He said the Sultan had demonstrated “scholarship, humility, and an unwavering commitment to peace,” while also serving as a voice of stability during periods of national challenges.
Tinubu said, “You have been a stabilising voice in times of turbulence, a bridge-builder across faiths and communities, and a moral compass not only for our Muslim ummah, but for our entire nation.”
The President also commended the Sultan’s efforts in promoting education, interfaith dialogue and humanitarian services, as well as his advocacy for peaceful coexistence and the dignity of Nigerians.
He described the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto as “a sanctuary for dialogue”, adding that his words carried weight across the country.
“In moments of grief, you comfort. In moments of division, you unite. In moments of doubt, you remind us of our common humanity and our common destiny as one people under God,” Tinubu said.
The President further acknowledged the Sultan’s contribution to nation-building, particularly in the areas of security, community development and the spiritual well-being of Nigerians.
“As President, I deeply value your partnership in nation-building. Your security support, community development, and the spiritual well-being of our people strengthen the fabric of our republic,” he said.
Tinubu prayed that Allah would grant the Sultan many more years in good health, sound mind and strength to continue serving his family, the Sokoto Caliphate and Nigeria.
He added: “May your reign continue to be a source of blessing, guidance, and honour.”
The President concluded by wishing the Sultan a rewarding new decade, saying, “Your Eminence, congratulations once again. May this new decade of your life be your most rewarding yet.”
