Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have stepped up offensive operations against terrorist elements in Zamfara State, recording fresh successes with the neutralisation of fighters and recovery of weapons.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops of Sector 2 carried out coordinated clearance operations in the early hours of May 4, 2026, targeting identified terrorist enclaves across several communities.
The operations covered Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area.
During the advance into Tungar Magaji, troops encountered armed terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower, neutralising two of the fighters, while others fled the area under intense pressure.
Following the engagement, troops conducted a sweep of the location and recovered one AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, along with a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor and restore lasting peace to communities affected by banditry and violent attacks.
The statement reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to protecting lives and property, adding that troops will sustain aggressive operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the theatre.
It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing operations.
