WAWU Africa has announced a new startup support initiative that will provide ₦250,000 grants to 20 Nigerian entrepreneurs in June 2026 as part of its commitment to supporting small businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship across the country.
According to the organisation, the programme is designed for Nigerians who are serious about building sustainable businesses and are willing to prepare themselves through training, certification, and proper business planning before applying for funding support.
The initiative is not being presented as a political programme or a connection-based opportunity. WAWU Africa said the grant selection process will focus on preparation, learning, business readiness, and the willingness of applicants to grow viable businesses that can create impact.
To qualify for the ₦250,000 startup grant, applicants are expected to complete a Diploma Training in Business or Entrepreneurship through the WAWUAfrica and Alison learning platform. Participants must also obtain certification after completing the training programme.
In addition, applicants are required to own a registered business, have a business plan ready for submission, join the organisation’s WhatsApp community, and maintain an account with one of the programme’s partner banks before they can be considered for the grant opportunity.
The application portal for submissions will officially open on May 30, 2026, giving interested entrepreneurs time to complete the necessary requirements before applications begin.
WAWU Africa described the programme as part of its wider vision of “Building Africa’s Largest Skilled Workforce,” with a focus on empowering Nigerians who are willing to learn, prepare, and develop businesses that can grow successfully in the current economy.
The organisers also stressed that the opportunity is open to individuals based on readiness and commitment rather than personal influence or political connections.
“This is not about connections or politics. It is about preparation, learning, vision, and readiness to build,” the organisation stated.
Interested Nigerians are encouraged to complete their training, get certified, organise their business documents, and prepare their business plans ahead of the opening date.
WAWU Africa believes the initiative could help support the next generation of successful Nigerian businesses by giving entrepreneurs access to startup funding and business development preparation at the same time.
