US President Donald Trump has made a striking claim about Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, saying there is a “good probability” that he knows where the Iranian leader is currently located. Trump also suggested that Khamenei is suffering from serious injuries, adding to growing speculation about his health and whereabouts after he disappeared from public view following a deadly attack earlier this year.
Where is Mojtaba Khamenei?
Speaking during NBC News’ Meet the Press, Trump was asked whether he knew where Mojtaba Khamenei was and what information he had about his condition. Trump hinted that he may know the Iranian leader’s location but refused to reveal details.
“I don’t want to say whether or not I know where he is, but there’s a good probability that I do,” Trump said.
When asked if Khamenei was inside Iran, the US president declined to answer, saying, “I’d rather not say that.”
The comments come as questions continue to surround Mojtaba Khamenei’s whereabouts. He has not appeared publicly for months, and only written messages attributed to him have been released through Iranian state media. The lack of public appearances has fueled speculation about his condition and his role within Iran’s leadership.
Trump Speaks About Khamenei’s Health
Trump also commented on Khamenei’s reported health condition. According to him, intelligence inputs suggest that the Iranian leader is “pretty badly injured” and may be in a very serious condition.
Despite this, Trump said Khamenei has continued issuing public statements and discussing developments involving the United States and Iran.
“There’s a certain bravery there,” Trump said, adding that many people suffering such serious injuries would not be focused on political matters.
Trump also described Mojtaba Khamenei as younger and more pragmatic than his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Nuclear Talks and Future Relations
Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen publicly since reportedly sustaining serious injuries during a February 28 attack that killed his father and several senior Iranian military leaders.
Trump also touched on wider US-Iran relations, saying he remains open to meeting Khamenei. He claimed that Iran had agreed to pause its nuclear programme, although Iranian officials quickly rejected that assertion.
The US president added that diplomatic efforts continue, but stressed that sanctions relief and broader agreements would depend on future negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
