Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku, on Thursday said the ongoing road projects being executed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike are opening up the economy of the FCT and improving access to communities in the satellite towns.
Ishaku, who spoke in Abuja on the sidelines of the inauguration of the newly constructed interchange linking Jahi and Gwarimpa districts, described the minister’s road infrastructure drive as a major boost to movement, business activities and the overall economic life of residents.
He said the road would not only reduce travel time for commuters, but also improve access to several communities within the FCT and provide a strategic alternative route to the Kaduna highway, a development he said would directly impact businesses and residents.
According to him, Bwari, as the largest and most populated area council in the FCT, has a huge concentration of low and medium-income earners who rely heavily on accessible road infrastructure to connect to the city centre and surrounding districts.
Ishaku said the decision of the FCT Administration to prioritise such a corridor showed a deliberate focus on the needs of ordinary residents and the economic value of connecting satellite communities more effectively to the capital city.
“This is a major road linking Jahi, Gwarimpa and Bwari.This road is very important. It will save time, and businesses around here will be boosted.
“Once you ply this road, it links you to so many communities within the capital city and Bwari, and you can even access Kaduna Road through it. So, this road is vital and very key to the economic life of the FCT,” he stated.
The council chairman said the pace of infrastructure development witnessed in the FCT in less than three years had left a visible footprint across the territory, adding that the current momentum had created an opening for area council administrations to align more deliberately with the broader development push.
He urged other council chairmen to take advantage of what he described as a rare opportunity to work with an administration that has made visible infrastructure delivery a priority, stressing that local governments must use the moment to drive development closer to the grassroots.
“Any visionary Area council chairman should just key in. This is an opportunity on a platter of gold to have a working minister,” Musa asserted.
Ishaku also pledged total support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying his administration would leverage the developmental strides of the FCT Minister to improve infrastructure and human capital development in Bwari Area Council.
“It is an opportunity on a platter of gold to key into the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President so that we can leverage the developmental strides of the FCT Minister and bring that progress into our area councils,” he concluded.
He added that his administration was determined to use the current window of support and collaboration to place Bwari among the top-ranking and most developed communities in the Federal Capital Territory.
The council boss also expressed appreciation to Wike for supporting his political journey and giving him the platform to serve, saying he was excited by the opportunity to lead the area council at a time he believes Bwari can rise in relevance and development within the FCT.
