Residents of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have rallied behind the candidacy of Engineer Osborn Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi ahead of the August 22, 2026 local government election in the state.

The support was expressed on Monday, August 17, during the Ohaozara council area campaign held at the St. Margaret Umahi Pavilion in Uburu.

The event attracted political leaders, community stakeholders, youths, women, professionals and other residents from across the council area who gathered to support Umahi’s emergence as what the campaign described as a new generation of leadership.

A statement issued on Tuesday by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Media, said the gathering demonstrated the growing acceptability of Umahi among the people of Ohaozara.

According to the statement, Umahi is an engineer, financial expert and experienced leader whose background places him in a strong position to provide what it described as purposeful and responsive leadership.

“The people of Ohaozara Local Government Area have demonstrated strong support and enthusiasm for the emergence of their young and vibrant son, Engr. Osborn Umahi, as a new generation of leadership,” the statement said.

It added that the campaign provided an opportunity for residents to identify with Umahi’s aspirations and reaffirm their support ahead of Saturday’s election.

The statement said the turnout at the event reflected what it described as the candidate’s growing popularity across the council area.

“The atmosphere at the gathering shows a growing desire among the people for leadership anchored on competence, experience, fresh ideas and a genuine understanding of their needs and aspirations,” it said.

It described the campaign as more than a political mobilisation, saying it represented an expression of confidence in one of the community’s own.

“For many of those present, the campaign was not simply about political mobilisation. It was an expression of confidence in one of Ohaozara’s own and a statement of expectation for a new chapter of leadership,” the statement added.

The statement said the candidate’s combination of engineering expertise, financial knowledge, leadership experience and broad exposure had positioned him as a strong contender in the election.

With the Ebonyi State local government election scheduled for Saturday, August 22, the campaign urged supporters to convert the momentum generated during the mobilisation into votes.

“As the August 22 election draws closer, the focus now shifts from acceptability to victory at the polls. The massive support witnessed at the campaign, supporters say, must be translated into votes on Saturday,” it said.
