Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that the Alakija Bridge remains safe and structurally sound following an attempt by suspected vandals to damage part of the infrastructure.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance in a statement posted on his Instagram handle on Saturday after inspecting the bridge.

The governor said the inspection was conducted following the vandalism attempt, assuring motorists and other residents that the bridge remained fit for use.

“Let me reassure Lagosians that the bridge is safe, structurally sound and ready for use. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu commended security personnel involved in securing the area, including the Nigeria Police Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Task Force, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

He disclosed that some suspects had already been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others allegedly involved in the incident.

“Some of those involved are already in custody, and we are going after the rest,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu warned that the state government would not tolerate attacks on public infrastructure, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.

“Let me be clear, anyone who attempts to destroy public infrastructure in Lagos will face the full force of the law,” he said.

The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor, saying ongoing clean-up operations were already producing visible results.

“We are also keeping our commitment to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor. The ongoing clean-up is already making a visible difference, and the work will continue,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu urged Lagos residents to support efforts to protect public infrastructure and maintain security across the state.

“We all have a role to play in keeping Lagos safe and protecting what belongs to all of us,” he added.

TVC News had earlier reported that the Lagos State Government arrested 27 suspected hoodlums following the alleged vandalism of a newly constructed bridge linking Festac Town to Alakija.

The arrests followed a joint midnight enforcement operation by officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force after authorities uncovered the alleged destruction of critical components of the bridge.
