Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has announced the death of his colleague and Yoruba cinema icon, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

In a statement released on Sunday, Kosoko said Hassan died at about 3:00 p.m. on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66.

Kosoko described the development as one received with deep sorrow, paying tribute to the veteran actor’s contribution to the Yoruba film industry.

He also disclosed that Ogogo’s remains would be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, in Ogun State, later on Sunday.

He wrote: “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.

“His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where the Laying-in-State Ceremony will take place tomorrow”.

A Laying-in-State Ceremony has been scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, 24th August 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro.

The veteran actor concluded the announcement with prayers, asking that “Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable faces of Yoruba movies, with a career spanning over four decades and more than 300 film credits to his name.
