— Party stakeholders meet in Owerri, reaffirm support for Tinubu, urge political realignment

Prominent leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Abia State and the South-East region have called for stronger party unity, strategic coordination, and consensus-building ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the region must reposition itself politically to remain relevant at the national level.

The meeting, held in Owerri, Imo State, brought together top party stakeholders, political office holders, and delegates from Abia State to deliberate on internal party affairs and the broader political direction of the South-East within the APC.

Speaking at the event, the host governor senator Hope uzodimma welcomed participants to Imo State, describing their presence as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to the party’s progress in the region.

He commended the successful conduct of APC congresses in Abia State, particularly the adoption of consensus in selecting party leaders, describing it as a model for internal democracy.

He urged party members to sustain the spirit of unity, stressing that the APC must dominate Abia State and strengthen its structures across the South-East.
“Nigeria is at a turning point, and every geopolitical zone is realigning politically. The South-East cannot afford to be left behind,” he said, calling for greater cohesion within the party.

Uzodimma further emphasized that political participation within the ruling party remains key to influencing governance at the federal level, urging members to close ranks and work collectively for electoral victory in 2027.

According to him, “government belongs to the party,” adding that unity within APC remains essential for political relevance and national inclusion.

He also called for internal discipline, consensus-driven primaries, and reduction of post-primary litigations, warning that prolonged legal battles weaken party performance during elections.

Stakeholders at the meeting also expressed strong support for the leadership structure of the party, particularly commending the efforts of the state chairman, whom they described as capable and experienced.

In a more expansive political address, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, emphasized the need for strategic political alignment in the South-East, declaring that the region must fully integrate into APC’s national structure to secure political relevance.

He described ongoing political consultations as leadership-driven and strategic, insisting that unity within the party was non-negotiable.

“We must come together, not just in words, but in action, to ensure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he stated.

Kalu further urged stakeholders to embrace consensus politics, warning against costly internal disputes and post-election litigation that often weaken party cohesion.

He also called for peace, unity, and structured political engagement in the region, stressing that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability.

The meeting ended with renewed commitments from stakeholders to strengthen APC structures across Abia State and the wider South-East, with participants pledging loyalty to the party and its leadership ahead of the next general election cycle.
