FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with João Cancelo for the Portuguese full-back to join the club on a permanent basis, with the defender signing a contract until June 30, 2029.
The Catalan club announced the deal on its official website, confirming that Cancelo has now returned to Barça permanently after two loan spells.
Cancelo first joined Barcelona in the 2023/24 season on loan from Manchester City under then-manager Xavi Hernández. He made 42 appearances, scoring four goals and providing five assists.
After his first spell, the full-back moved to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal before returning to Barcelona on loan in January 2026.

According to the club, Cancelo quickly earned the trust of current manager Hansi Flick and finished the season as an important member of the squad, mainly operating at left-back.
He made 23 appearances during his second spell, scoring two goals and registering four assists.
“João Cancelo now signs a permanent contract with Barça and is back available for Hansi Flick, who clearly trusts the fullback and will try to make the most of his talents and attacking intent,” Barcelona said.
“Cancelo is a blaugrana!” the club added.
