Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned champions of the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup for the first time after dispatching Togo 4-0 in the final in Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday.
Akeem Busari’s team completed the tournament without defeat, winning all five matches while scoring 17 goals and conceding just twice.
Nigeria took control of the final through captain Harmony Chidi, who converted two penalties in the opening half.
Chidi opened the scoring in the 15th minute after Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was involved in the build-up that unsettled the Togolese defence.
The captain made it 2-0 from another spot-kick in the 35th minute, sending the Flamingos into the interval with a commanding advantage.
Nigeria maintained their dominance after the restart and added a third goal through Oluebube Umejiaku in the 67th minute.
Adegbuyi, who had posed a constant threat to Togo throughout the contest, put the result beyond doubt when she found the net in the 90th minute.

The title caps a remarkable campaign for Chidi and Adegbuyi, who played prominent roles in Nigeria’s march to the championship.
The triumph also marks a major improvement on the Flamingos’ performance in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2024, when they finished as runners-up.
Nigeria drew 2-2 with hosts Ghana in the final before losing 5-4 on penalties, with Chidi getting on the scoresheet during regulation time.
The Flamingos returned to the competition two years later and produced a perfect run on their way to the trophy.
They began their campaign with a 5-0 victory over Niger before recording a 4-2 win against Ghana.
Busari’s side then defeated Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 respectively before sealing the title with their emphatic victory over Togo.
The 2026 tournament is only the second edition of the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup, leaving Nigeria and Ghana with one championship each.
Ghana claimed the inaugural title in 2024, while Nigeria have now taken the crown in 2026.
For the Flamingos, the triumph provides a significant boost after their narrow defeat in the competition’s first final and underlines their dominance throughout this year’s tournament.
