Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) on Friday hosted a delegation from Lambung Mangkurat University and Airlangga University in a strategic courtesy visit aimed at expanding international collaboration in teaching, research, innovation and institutional development.
Speaking during the visit in Kano, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, said the university has continued to strengthen partnerships with universities within and outside Nigeria, noting that the institution currently collaborates with universities in the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Egypt and Bangladesh.
He said the partnerships have enhanced the university’s international visibility, created opportunities for staff training and promoted international publication of research, allowing KHAIRUN scholars to reach a wider global audience.
“The international academic community is getting to know that there is another giant growing in the northern part of Nigeria,” he said.
Professor Garba disclosed that the Indonesian universities specifically requested to visit KHAIRUN after learning about the institution through its growing reputation and social media presence.
He said both sides had agreed to prioritise collaboration in joint research, particularly in entrepreneurship, Qur’anic sciences, Islamic studies and human development, while also exploring staff exchange, student exchange and joint academic publications.

Speaking on behalf of Lambung Mangkurat University, Professor Ahmad Alim Bachri expressed delight at visiting KHAIRUN and described the visit as the beginning of a long-term partnership.
He said both institutions would pursue collaboration in joint research, joint publications, seminars, and student and lecturer exchanges to improve academic quality.
The Rector also indicated that his university would explore opportunities to provide scholarships for students under the proposed partnership.
Also speaking, Fajar Mulya, Coordinator of International Student Admission and Promotion at Airlangga University, said his institution was ready to collaborate with KHAIRUN in research, education and community development.

He added that Airlangga University offers scholarship opportunities that would be open to eligible KHAIRUN students through the partnership.
The visit is expected to pave the way for formal agreements that will strengthen academic cooperation between KHAIRUN and the two Indonesian universities, while creating opportunities for staff and students to benefit from international exchanges and collaborative research.
