Following the death of 15-year-old volunteer teacher Malam Usman Halilu, the Minanata community in Sokoto South Local Government Area is experiencing tension and mourning.
At a joint news conference held on Wednesday by the Minanata Community and the Minanata Future Association, locals, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders voiced their displeasure over the occurrence.
The organizations called on authorities to make sure justice is done and denounced the killing, calling it a senseless act.
Maccido Mohammad, a postgraduate student at Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, claimed that Mansur Arzika, the suspect, had a history of conflict with the dead.
According to him, the dispute originated from a previous instance where the late Halilu had identified the culprit in relation to a theft.
He claims that the victim was assaulted on his way home and that the suspect repeatedly stabbed him despite his attempts to flee.
The Sokoto State Government and security services are being urged by stakeholders to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved for the incident, which has prompted worries about community safety.
Ibrahim Muhammad, a lawyer, also promised to continue the issue, stating that justice must be done.
The late Halilu was characterized as a committed volunteer educator who worked in neighborhood schools in the city of Sokoto.
Members of the community noted that he made a substantial contribution to the education of younger pupils and that his passing has left a big vacuum.
They cautioned that failing to take decisive action could erode public trust and incite more violent crimes..
