The operation, carried out on June 17, 2026, was confirmed on Tuesday during a press briefing by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, who noted that the victims were swiftly evacuated to prevent escalation of tensions in the area.
According to the Command, the rescued individuals comprise 14 Chadians, nine Burkinabes, four Beninoise, four Malians, two Togolese, two Cameroonians, and one Ghanaian.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 20 of the foreign nationals allegedly entered Nigeria illegally, while 18 were found to be in possession of valid ECOWAS travel documents.
Police added that the matter has been referred to relevant agencies, including embassies and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
