A legal practitioner and political analyst, Chizy Enyi, has asked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to remove Kingsley Chinda as Minority Leader over claims that he has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter dated May 9, 2026, Enyi said Chinda should no longer remain Minority Leader after reportedly appearing before the APC governorship screening committee as an aspirant.
The petition claimed that Chinda’s participation in the APC screening process shows that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which should automatically end his position as leader of the minority caucus in the House.
Enyi argued that it would be unfair and against House rules for Chinda to continue occupying the office of Minority Leader if he has truly joined the APC. He therefore urged Abbas to remove him immediately.
The lawyer also referred to Godswill Akpabio, who resigned as Senate Minority Leader in 2018 after leaving the PDP for the APC.
He questioned whether the same political party should produce both the Majority Leader and Minority Leader in the House of Representatives at the same time.
Enyi further described Chinda’s alleged appearance before the APC screening committee while still serving as PDP Minority Leader as embarrassing to the National Assembly.
He warned the Speaker against ignoring the issue, saying Nigerians are watching closely and that the matter affects the credibility of the legislature.
As of the time of the report, neither Chinda nor the Speaker’s office had responded to the allegations.
