The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 150MVA power transformer at its Afam IV 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Rivers State.
The transformer was commissioned by the TCN Port Harcourt Region on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, increasing the substation’s transformation capacity from 120MVA to 240MVA.
According to TCN, the project will significantly strengthen electricity transmission to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) load centre, enabling the DisCo to receive and distribute more electricity to consumers across Port Harcourt and its environs.
The company said the project is part of ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at improving Nigeria’s electricity supply and strengthening transmission infrastructure.

TCN said the additional capacity is expected to support improved electricity distribution and help meet growing demand in the Port Harcourt metropolis and surrounding areas.
