The Chief Executive Officer of Winhomes Global Services Limited, Stella Okengwu, has commended President Bola Tinubu for opening a channel of communication over diaspora investments affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
Okengwu, who spoke on behalf of affected investors, described the development as a positive step towards resolving the dispute, while urging the Federal Government to proceed with compensation for those affected.
In a statement issued on Monday, she said many Nigerians in the diaspora had invested their savings in properties impacted by the coastal highway project and were still awaiting certainty over the future of their investments.
She said the Presidency’s decision to engage with the affected investors had offered renewed hope and could help restore confidence among Nigerians living abroad who invest in the country.
According to Okengwu, the investors remain committed to Nigeria and are willing to continue developing their remaining property, create jobs and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
“Our investors are still waiting for their compensation. Families are still waiting for certainty,” she said.
Okengwu said the outcome of the dispute could have wider implications for diaspora investment, particularly for Nigerians abroad who are considering bringing their capital back home.
She therefore urged the Federal Government to sustain the engagement until it leads to compensation, rebuilding and renewed confidence among affected investors.
“Today, I choose gratitude without abandoning accountability. I say thank you—but I will continue to respectfully advocate until compensation is paid,” she said.
The Winhomes CEO also appealed to Nigerians in the diaspora to remain engaged with Nigeria, saying the effective resolution of investment-related disputes could strengthen confidence in the country as a destination for diaspora capital.
She urged the Federal Government to demonstrate that Nigeria can listen to investors when challenges arise and take steps to address legitimate concerns.
According to her, the dispute, which began with the demolition of affected property, could ultimately end with restoration if the government follows through on its engagement with the investors.
She added that resolving the matter would not only address the concerns of affected families but could also send a positive signal to Nigerians abroad considering investment opportunities in the country.
