Woman arraigned for disconnecting neighbour’s electricity

A middle-aged woman, Mary Nwosibe, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly disconnecting her neighbour’s electricity supply without consent.

Nwosibe, who resides in Life Camp, was charged with joint act, mischief and inciting public disturbance. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecution counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Oparah Chinedum, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on August 5.

Nwachukwu alleged that on August 3, Nwosibe and some other persons, who are still at large, entered the complainant’s apartment and disconnected the electrical wiring serving his kitchen from the general power supply.

She said the alleged action resulted in damage to the complainant’s electrical appliances valued at N123,000.

The prosecution said the offences contravened Sections 79, 327 and 114 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Hauwa Aboki granted Nwosibe bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in the same amount.

The magistrate ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide a reliable means of identification.

She adjourned the case until September 17 for hearing.
